Free Youth & Family North Oakville
Skate Night

A Free Youth & Family North Oakville Skate Night took place at the River Oaks Community Centre on Saturday, November 24th, 2018 with over 100 youth and adults in attendance.

The event was planned and hosted by the North Oakville Youth Development Council (NOYDC) which is a council that consists of youth members and adult allies from various community organizations.  The purpose of the event was to disseminate information while building an even more youth-caring neighbourhood in North Oakville.

The infographic,  made by youth volunteer, was based on a North Oakville Youth Survey developed by the Our Kids Network and its Collective Impact Partners.  Some results of this survey showed that about 3 in 5 grade seven students living in North Oakville thought their neighbourhood was caring.  That number dropped to about 2 in 5 when students reached grade 10.   Research supports that having a caring neighbourhood is a key element in order for youth to thrive.

This event was not only a fun-night providing a space where youth, families and neighbours could interact with each other.  In addition, this event was another step towards spreading awareness about the importance of youth-caring neighbourhoods in our community.  A special thank you to the Town of Oakville for providing the venue and to our Funder, the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
