Sharnova is the Logistics Director for Model City Hall and a valued HYI volunteer!

Model City Hall is a federally registered non-profit organization aimed at improving youth civic engagement. Each year we organize a free conference that simulates City Hall debates and this year we are excited to be hosting Model City Hall 2021, a virtual roundtable-style conference open to all high school and post-secondary students. It is an opportunity for youth to learn about policymaking and sharpen their leadership, critical thinking, and public speaking skills.

This year the conference is set for Saturday, May 1st, 2021, between 9 AM – 6 PM. We will be

hosting three committees this year: Public Health in Toronto; Housing, Homelessness, and Social Supports; and Dismantling Discrimination Within Hamilton.

All high school and post-secondary students residing in the GTHA are encouraged to apply. We highly encourage applications from students with 2SLGBTQ+, Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPoC) and other marginalized and equity-seeking groups. It is important to remember that no prior Model UN or Model Parliament experience is required to participate.

You can expect a day of lively debate with guest speakers from a number of fields. Delegates will also have the opportunity to write resolutions that will be sent to people working in municipal government to take your ideas further. In addition, we will also be hosting a Lunch & Networking session where you will get the chance to meet different politicians and youth organizations in the community. The application deadline is Wednesday, April 28th, 2021, at 11:59 PM EST. To find more information on how to join, go to https://modelcityhall.org/
