The Halton Youth Initiative (HYI) is a large Halton-based project, supported by the Our Kids Network and funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. We have four youth-led tables in various Halton communities (along with multiple youth volunteer tables) that work towards raising youth voice on topics that matter to them, framed within the principal idea of youth building meaningful relationships with adult allies in order to increase their assets. Part of that asset work is being intentional about incorporating the Developmental Relationships Framework in everything that we do with youth which includes:

1. Expressing Care

2. Challenging Growth

3. Providing Support

4. Sharing Power and

5. Expanding Possibilities

Watch this video made by students right here in Halton to learn more about Developmental Relationships.

We are focusing on Expanding Possibilities and we asked our newest youth volunteer group, our very own HYI Youth Website Advisory Team, what expanding possibilities means to them. They told us how adults can help, and how participating on the website advisory team is an example of expanding their possibilities. Watch for our next posts to learn what the youth had to say.
